I'd say that it occurs from time to time when people either change their family situation or simply get tired of keeping herps, however I have not seen that many cases …

It did happen to me once some 20 years ago when I met my wife. She made me choose between her and my snakes, so I sold off my entire collection and all equipment.

Ten years ago I could not resist anymore, I just had to get some new snakes, so I made a deal with my wife. I built a small snake room in another small building used for garden tools, henhouse and a small workshop. She said that as long as no snake enters our house ever, I could keep my snakes there.

I started to keep foreign snakes back in 1970 and the period without snakes from 1994 to 2004 has been the only one and it will not happen again for as long as I'm still capabel to care for them.

Ha ok!,

This seems to be very commen for many people in sweden to keep them away from the house.   isnt it hard to always have to walk over to the in another house. when it cold snowing or raining?

I think people a lot of time get to many snakes.  or ones they cant take of.  thinking there going to breed etc.  things are almost impossible to sell in sweden if you want a decent price for somthing.  so your ending up almost giving things away.. which is a little bit of a shame.  then if you breed snaked instead of 5 or 6  you have like 30-40 ,

once breeding mice  get into the mix is becomes work,,, then its too much

I think that the solution we've come up with works fine and no it's not hard to walk about 30 yards. Cold, snow or rain comes wether I keep snakes or not ;)

The problem concerning breeding young and not getting them sold are well known, but I think that it's pretty easy to explain and understand. We bring up too many juveniles and our home market is far too limited with only a few hundred organized keepers. Market gets saturated quickly.

One must remember that Sweden is a very small country with only about 9 million people, the US is huge in comparison with about 315 million people.

true!  i agree the markey is so small.... doesnt have be snakes... it could be anything in sweden people are cheap and dont want to pay anything.  this is why i have no intrest right now in breeding.  i just want really nice snakes. but im an idiot and pay the highest price for eveything =/  ohh well

Some swedish breeders choose to go on the european market, offering their young reptiles on the big fairs in denmark, holland, germany and the czech republic.

I breed kingsnakes in a very small extent, so I usually get my snake's offspring sold pretty fast.
